Haven Buchanan was born in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and raised by her maternal uncle and his wife, alongside their paraplegic son Theodore. A lover of the arts, she graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in English Literature and became an award winning novelist, earning a prestigious position in the English department of NYU in New York City. While working on the manuscript for her seventh novel, she met and fell in love with Jay Bloomfield, a retiring drummer of the pseudo-rock band Ouija. Three children and a shared SoHo penthouse later, the pair are still inseparable and maintain a spiritual connection to their respective Native backgrounds (Cree and Cherokee).
