Awake and Happy

What had started as a job -- a job she had almost gotten fired from on her first day of work -- had turned into the most stable relationship Elena had ever had. It hadn't been without its twists and turns, but she had ended up exactly where she belonged, with exactly whom she belonged to.

It was lucky for her he was willing to put up with what a terrible employee she had always been. Though she always liked to tease him that she hadn't had a paycheck in ages. She hadn't earned one either, spending more time asleep than awake. After all this time, she knew one thing was certain: he was always there, waiting more patiently than she deserved when she awoke.

She knew how lucky she was. She didn't care about much in life but his happiness was at the top of her list. Her own comfort level was much, much lower on that list; that was likely the reason they worked so well together. He could do anything he liked to her; no matter how rough, no matter how degrading. Nothing was off-limits.

She didn't have the words for how it made her feel to find him there, ready and willing to feed her cravings each time she awoke, without even the slightest admonishment. But she could certainly show him how appreciative she was. The least she could do was make sure he would never need to question whether she was worth the wait.
